Aardvark Hunting
The aardvark, named from a South African term meaning “earth pig,” resembles a pig but is more closely related to elephants and golden moles. Found in sub-Saharan Africa, aardvarks efficiently dig with their large front claws, creating holes at a rate of 2 feet in 15 seconds to access their main diet of termites and ants. Their long, sticky tongues can measure up to 12 inches, allowing them to consume tens of thousands of insects nightly. Aardvarks are nocturnal, living alone and spending the day curled in their burrows. They emerge at night, on alert for predators, and rely on their keen sense of sound and smell, as they have poor vision and are color-blind.
