Alpine Ibex Hunting

The European, or Alpine, ibex (Capra ibex ibex) typically weighs around 100 kg (220 pounds) for males and 50 kg (110 pounds) for females. Males stand about 90 cm (3 feet) tall at the shoulder, with darker brownish-gray fur and large, curved horns. They inhabit areas near the snow line and lower altitudes in winter, forming male or female herds, while old males often live solitarily. Once widespread in the Alps, their numbers have declined significantly, leading to local protection and reintroduction efforts in several countries, including France, Switzerland, and Austria.
