Bison Hunting

Bison include the American Bison (buffalo) and the European Bison (wisent), both nearly extinct by the early 20th century. The American Bison has seen recovery due to conservation efforts, with legal hunting allowed in some U.S. states and Canadian provinces, while the European Bison struggles still, with limited hunting in Belarus for conservation funding. Bison are large mammals important for grazing in grasslands. They are now protected in national parks and symbolize North America’s natural heritage and cultural significance for Indigenous peoples.
