Black Bear Hunting

The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is found across the U.S. and Canada, with hunting seasons in 28 states and all Canadian provinces. Maine has one of the largest populations. These bears adapt well to areas near human civilization. When choosing a hunting area, consider your method (e.g., baiting or hounds) and the desired color phase. Beyond classic black, bears can be brown, chocolate, cinnamon, red, or blonde, especially in the northwest. Rare color phases include the Glacier bear in Alaska and the all-white Kermode bear in British Columbia.
