Bufflehead Duck Hunting

The Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola) is a small diving duck found primarily in North America. Males have a distinctive glossy black head with a large white patch, a white body, and black wings, while females are brownish-gray with a smaller white patch. Adults measure about 30-38 cm (12-15 inches) in length and weigh 300-500 grams (10.6-17.6 oz). Buffleheads breed in forested areas across Canada and the northern U.S., near freshwater lakes and marshes. During migration, they inhabit various aquatic environments like coastal bays and estuaries. Their diet mainly includes aquatic invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, and mollusks, along with some plant materials during the non-breeding season. These ducks are skilled divers, adept at foraging underwater.
