Gould’s Turkey Hunting

Gould’s turkey (Meleagris gallopavo mexicana) is a subspecies of wild turkey found in Mexico and the southwestern United States. Named after naturalist John Gould, it features iridescent plumage with bronze, green, and copper colors and distinctive white flight feathers. Inhabiting mountainous oak woodlands and pine forests, Gould’s turkey forages on acorns, seeds, fruits, and insects. Known for their social behavior and vocalizations, these turkeys form flocks outside of the breeding season. Conservation efforts have aided in their recovery from habitat loss and hunting pressures.
